Thread: Gamestop Absorbs Rhino Videogames

  1. Frown Gamestop Absorbs Rhino Videogames

Well, I guess its not really news anymore and its front page on CAG:

    http://www.cheapassgamer.com/

Gamestop bought out Rhino Videogames from Blockbuster. I work at Rhino now and for some reason employees werent supposed to know until managers had come back from the takeover meeting. ( I guess because some employees were too disgusted with the news and walked out on the job or something) So I had the pleasure of finding out from some of our long time customers yesterday. No more 2 for 1 's , no more 7 day exchanges, no more used strat guides for $1.99, and no more old school stuff (NES, Sega, Playstation - I always enjoyed seeing all of the retro stuff come into the store).

  2. I've never heard of Rhino Videogames before this.

Now, I wish the takeover went the other way. The US needs more stores like that.

  3. I live in a small town 10 miles from Dallas. We had a Rhino games here last summer, but they had to close shop. I really liked the store, because it had a large selection of older titles for Dreamcast, Playstation, N64 and SNES. Plus, the prices of the new and used games were pretty good.

  4. Agree with Chao. Never heard of Rhino, but this glut of crappy cookie cutter corporate gaming stores needs to stop.

    But it won't.

  5. Aren't they on the verge on Monopolizing? I mean buying out their competition like this...

Rhino is more or less a southeast chain, although there isn't one near me. This news sucks, because GameStop's used game market now has one less competitor.

Yeah, its mostly a SE chain but they were starting to spread out. It was just nice to work in a store and not shovel preorders, subscriptions, and other bullshit down peoples throats. We always enjoyed just talking to customers as normal gamers and not as sales people, and garnered a lot of trust for it. Hopefully, that doesnt have to change too much now that we are working for the suits, but I kind of doubt it.

Gamestop is the Wii of videogame stores.

Get your shit at a real store like Best Buy or Circuit City.

  9. Now, is it illegal, to sell your company, than restart it under a different name with the same policies etc?
