Thread: YOUR movies of 2006

  1. The only movie that really made much of an impact on me was Borat because it was so damn funny but I did like Superman Returns a good deal and found X3 to be pretty decent even though it doesn't live up to X2.

Other than those, as you can see I don't go to the movies all that much but I'm sure I'll be seeing most of the ones I've missed on DVD like Casino Royale, Pirates 2, Rocky Balboa and V for Vendetta.

  2. Best film I saw all year .. Casino Royale, then Rocky Balboa, then I guess I'd pick Cars.

    In chronological order I saw:

X-men 3 -- although I didn't like something about it, I found it very entertaining and true enough to the characters to watch it several times.

Superman Returns -- it also coulda been better I suppose (more action, less run-time while still not deleting some of those scenes; more upbeat ending) I loved it. Saw it 3 times in the theater, once in 3D also bought DVD.

Cars -- I love Pixar films but didn't think I'd get into this ... wow, it surprised me. Fantastic animation and heart-tugging too,and fun! I even liked Tow Mater.

The Prestige -- not sure what I expected; the film disturbed me but I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

V for Vendetta -- rented this one, and WOW! Great film.

Casino Royale -- blew me away, it totally lost the boredom and comic-bookness of recent Bonds.

Rocky Balboa -- fantastic end to the series and just emotional enough too.

Other flicks I saw ... Over The HEdge (entertaining but not Pixar quality), Ant Bully (boring to me), You, Me & Dupree (what you'd expect, good choice of actors in it, I like Owen).

  3. I tend to like any movie I see. Anything that doesn't look interesting to me I don't tend to catch. Sometimes, my buddies toss me a film and I end up liking it, but usually if I want to see something I either like it or it was just okay.

    What I Liked:
    Thank You For Smoking
    An Inconvenient Truth
    16 Blocks
    Lady in the Water
Good Night and Good Luck (was that 2006?)

    What Was Eh:
    Clerks 2
    Cars
    The Devil Wears Prada

    What I Disliked:
My Super Ex-Girlfriend (started off kinda quirky and somewhat funny and... well, I'm trying to forget everything after their first date)
X-Men 3 (don't have to see it to know it's ass, everybody I know personally and whose opinions I trust said it sucked hardcore, worse than Gymkata)

    Still Want To See:
    Casino Royale
    Tenacious D
    The Prestige
    Blood Diamond
    Ice Age 2
    Death of a President

  4. Yours is the only positive Lady in the Water comment I've heard; hence I never rented it. Care to briefly elaborate why you liked it, in a nutshell?

  5. Because it probably went over the heads of everyone who didn't like it. It was actually pretty funny and also pretty sad. I didn't expect much from it, but since M. Night is hit or miss with me, I figured it would be worth a shot to see. Glad I did, though. I'm sure people complain most about the "twist" in this film, but I don't believe anyone who says he didn't fool them and they're probably just upset because he did.

  6. Lady in the Water was indeed awesome. I love how people freak out and hate on this movie. Makes me like it even more.

Pursuit of Happyness was also very good.
