Thread: Official Apple Thread

  1. It's simple to move thing with terminal using wild cards like *.jpg. I have no idea how to automate, you could write the command to a file but you would still have to open the file to run it.

  2. It's is simple, yes. But I don't want to do it (that's the point)

Anyway... uTorrent opens torrents automatically. All I need to have happen is for .torrent files to move from downloads to my dropbox/torrents folder without me having to deal with it. No, I'm not going to point uTorrent to my downloads folder and here is why: Having it harvest from the dropbox folder allows me to download torrent files from mobile, or any computer I could ever be on anywhere ever, and have them start downloading on my home computer right away.

Basically this: can any of you tell me how to do it before I start learning how to AppleScript this bitch.

  3. It looks like AppleScript is the best way. A buddy of mine sent me some code so I'll test it out tonight and let you know.

  4. This should work. All you should need to do is edit the Torrent Listener.scpt file in AppleScript editor and change the part I underlined in red in the picture to the path you want. The reason there's a part outlined in blue is because it's assuming you want it to go to somewhere else in your user folder. So if your dropbox folder was ~/Josh/Torrents, you would just change the "SomeFolder:AnotherFolder" part to "Torrents". If it was ~/Josh/Stuff/Torrents, it would be "Stuff:Torrents". Etc.

The steps for enabling it are in the article I linked. If you're on Lion, in between steps 4 & 5, you just have to check the box to enable folder actions.

  5. You can also pay $20 for a program called Hazel.

  6. Josh can't walk into their office and give them $20 so that's out.

  7. I LOVE my iPad 3rd Gen.

Any longtime iPad owners have any app suggestions besides the obvious ones? (garageband, imovie, iphoto, netflix, hulu, hbo, * with friends)

    Also I love flipboard

  8. My iPad showed up on Friday, it's pretty incredible. I picked up the new otterbox defender case but I'm considering returning it for something else. It's like tank armor, indestructible but heavy and bulky. I think I could throw the thing against a brick wall and it'd come out unscathed, but with the case on the iPad weighs almost 3 pounds and is half as thick as the box the iPad comes in. Half the fun of a tablet is the ease of use that comes from being lightweight. It was also pretty pricey for a plastic case ($100). Has anyone seen a case for the new iPad that offers serious drop protection without adding significant weight? I've got nieces that like to throw things, so if there are no good alternatives I'll keep the otterbox.

Another issue I'm having is getting avi files onto the iPad. I know there are apps for playing avi but windows explorer doesn't let me move files to the iPad and iTunes doesn't let me move anything other than mp4 and mov files. Any tips?

I was looking at sites with the one I bought for my parents and it hit me: "Shit, I need to buy one."

Well I'm not responsible for the code, my buddies Ted and Scott (both AppleScript wizards) are. So if it works I'll forward testicles to them.
