It depends what you're using it for. For me RAM is huge because it means I can have a plethora of Virtual Machines running.

But it's true RAM either goes bad in the first few weeks or is DOA, or it stays good for a long time. Also I'll just have to learn to solder.

Yeah, you just have to take that into consideration when buying the laptop, instead of worrying about it after the fact.
I doubt the chipset supports more than 16GB anyway.

I'm not sure if you're serious about soldering, but surface-mount soldering is a bitch, and you need really good equipment.

I just noticed I'm storing my music twice.
When listening to shit through my laptop, I prefer windows media player. So all my music is in my Music folder.
But to put shit on my Iphone, all the same shit is in the Itunes Media folder.
That seems retarded. There has to be a way for both programs to just pull from one folder right?

I did it the other way around. I just had to uncheck a box that told Itunes to copy all the files that I imported into it.
Just freed up 40 gigs of hard drive space, lol. What a moron.

Yeah, I was at the Apple store yesterday with full intention of walking out with one of these but the only in store configuration with 16gb of ram is $4000. I unfortunately need a new laptop this week (I had to give back my MBP from work today) so waiting 4 weeks for mine to ship isn't an option, and I'm not about to spend around $2500 on a laptop without the exact configuration I want (that they don't stock in store). The way I look at it is I'll be getting a new(ish) Pro from my new job in a few weeks and I don't need a laptop with a dedicated graphics card, so I may end up just picking up a Macbook Air as my personal laptop and call it a day.

The new Macbook Pro's are gorgeous looking, but when it comes down to it spending close to $2500 on a computer I can't add a stick of ram into or swap out the hard drive if I'd like isn't appealing to me. For the ultrabooks & Air that are well under $1500 that's a luxury I'm willing to give up, but not for a high end expensive ass performance computer. This is a situation where if I didn't need a Mac to do my job properly I would purchase a Windows notebook and say fuck off to Apple.

Air's are pretty nice. Did you check refurbs at all? You can probably get a really nice MBP for like $300-$500 cheaper and even though it says it'll take a bit to ship, I got mine in 4 days.

I think I'm just staying away from buying a MBP for myself. I'm going to get one from work once I start so there isn't much sense for me to buy one, especially since the Air has plenty of power to do anything I need in the mean time (for nearly half the price).

Hackintosh is always an option. For workstations it's by far the best option.
