Thread: What Are You Listening to? Part 2

  1. I hate that this song kinda of gets forgotten about as its on PF's least popular album, but god damn its such a good closer.

Like every song on the goddamn album fades out.

The combo of Got To Move and What's Now is Now is great, (you can even extend it back to Long Time but eh) and with Mustache Man after that I'd say it's the strongest part of the album. Teenage Pregnancy is not a bad song but it kind of breaks the momentum. Sick of You to the end of the album is also all great, but it kind of loses its cohesive theme about relationships with Bound Away. I do really like Bound Away though I am not big about songs on the touring life so much in general.

Federal Funding may be the weakest track on the album. Surprising they open with it.

I mean I love the little arc. Long Time is about being happy being settled in a long relationship, Got To Move is about the girl (the same girl?) not being happy being settled and having to go do something else (maybe cheating or breaking up) and then What's Now is Now is him trying to recapture the past and forget her indiscretions, a really sad song, and then Mustache Man is about dealing with being alone with wasted time to look back on referring to either touring or being in love or anything you've done with your life in general, but you can keep it in the theme.

Teenage Pregnancy is like, What? No lyrics so you have to project everything onto it from the title. Not a bad little jam but it just seems misplaced. After that there is no cohesion, but the songs are good.

Anyway it seems a little more personal than most of their other albums overall. Less observational/lifestyle critical/political. But then again....I dunno, I'm looking back through the other albums and they all have pretty great personal and/or relationship tracks.
