    Yep.

  2. Oh, c'mon on Punky. You can't hold something like that against them when you're a fan of Avril. I admit it's somewhat rankling (being as far away from a football fan as a human can be), but they were actually asked permission to use their music in the Friday Night Lights movie, and then it went from there. And this occurred long after they'd established their sound. Plus, I hear it's actually a decent movie (though I haven't seen it as I prefer not to associate those songs with any movie, let alone one about football).

  3. I'm pretty sure they've used Beethoven in some pretty crappy commercials.

  4. Crappy commercials are far more dignified. Well, I'll just say I did/would enjoy listening to:

"Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean"
    "Memorial"

Those are great back-to-back tracks. I think that might place them above GYBE, who are a better soundtrack band.

  5. Sigur Ros live is awe inspiring.
    Semen Everywhere!

  6. I think this release could have done away with the third track altogether. 13 minutes of boredom if you ask me.

But holy christ, the fifth track is some serious shit. There are two crescendos -- one in the middle, one at the end -- that are like spiritual awakenings in their power. Especially the one at the end. At full volume, I could believe I'd died and gone to heaven.

I saw these guys open up for Smashing Pumpkins earlier this month and loved them. My sister had an old CD of their's that I didn't really get into but I'd like to give this one a shot.

  8. I caught Explosions opening for Smashing Pumpkins last month, and let me tell you, seeing them while sitting in the front row of the balcony, in a nice medium sized theater with fantastic acoustics made the show ten times better than seeing them in the summer at a stuffy smaller venue surrounded by douchebags.

Honestly their headlining show wasn't as awe inspiring as I had hoped. Still a good->great show, just didn't live up to my expectations.

  9. I was thinking of going to see them in Melbourne, Australia in February. I have a friend who moved there recently and wants me to visit anyway, so it would be two birds.

Goddamn, it's expensive, though. I guess I'm out of touch with flying because I expected it to be like $5-600 max. Turns out tickets start at like $1600! And I was curious, so I checked; first class tickets start at over $20k!!! No, that's not a typo. Needless to say, wtf.

So I'll probably just see them at the SF, CA. show.
