Eh, that's definitely the case with Samorost but it's not as much of an issue with this. Nothing more than in a regular adventure game, at any rate. The puzzles in the demo are very logical.
The demo didn't really blow me away. It's less Lucasarts-style puzzle solving and more clicking on random hotspots until you figure out what you actually need to do. Since the developers' previous games were the two Samorost titles, this isn't all that surprising.

I can't get the fucking lightbulb.
Anyway, $15 is pretty reasonable. This seems like the closest thing I'm getting to a new Neverhood.
The lightbulb puzzle is one of the reasons I think it's more about clicking randomly until you figure it out rather than any actual logical deduction.
I hate how you can't extend your body until you've moved the rungs around. Being able to extend while on the ladder at any level would've been a nice hint about how much higher you needed to get.. As it stands, I spent quite a bit of time trying to find a way to climb using the guard tower.
That puzzle was a little more obvious in Monkey Island 2 because the holes were horizontal, which incidentally is another game I don't particularly like because of its illogical puzzles!
I think you should walk up to it, hit the use key. stand there for a second, and then approach the identical one next to it and try again.
