I haven't heard of that issue, but I know it can be a little fussy about soundcards.
I have a weird issue with Steam. After I installed and played L4D2, I shut my PC off. After I turn it back on and tried to play some TF2 or ANY Steam game at that point, nothing happens. I click on my Steam icon and it says that I already have it running, yet its nowhere on my desktop to be found. I look at my PC's processes and its in there like normal, yet I can't play anything. Any game I click on tells me that Steam is already running., yet I have nothing up. I tried to uninstall Steam, but that doesn't work, either. I try to manually erase my Steam folder, but am not allowed since something is "using the program". Anybody got some wisdom for me ? Any help would be appreciated.
I think I had a similar problem a long while back... Can't remember what I did to fix it.
You can try to kill the steam.exe process in the task manager since it's either that or the Steam service that's keeping you from uninstalling. If killing the process doesn't help, open the services list (type services.msc into the Run box) and manually stop the Steam Client Service. Once you're no longer getting the "this is already running" messages you can try the regular stuff.

LOLBUMP
Sanitarium was just re-released on GOG: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/sanitarium
I've wanted to play this for years.
I got that game for ~$10 in roughly 1998 or so. I loved it.
I have tried a couple times to get into that game but I stopped in the middle somewhere for some reason. The atmosphere was cool at least. I'll give it a third try one day before getting rid of my copy.
Definitely one of my favorite adventure games. Incredible atmosphere and really clever, logical puzzles.
For those of you who bought Mass Effect on PC recently (perhaps via the Steam deal), here's a way to get the (admittedly rather poor) "Pinnacle Station" add-on for free:
- Go to this website: https://wendys.promo.eprize.com/bigscore/
- Click on the bit underneath that says "*If you don't have a code, click here."
- Enter your email address, wait for the code to be sent, then go back to the URL in step one, enter your email and your code, then enter your details on the next page.
- Play the stupid pointless flash games. After you've gone through them, a $5 coupon code for the EA Store will be sent to your email address.
- Go here, add the item to your cart, go to "proceed to checkout" and then use the coupon code on that page.
- Then just download it (through the unfortunately mandatory EA Download Manager).
The Overlord series is on sale at Steam for a paltry $8.75. Includes Overlord 1, 2 and Raising Hell add-on. No excuse for not getting these fine games for that price!
