And honestly, how many devs would get "down to the metal" given the chance? Not many.

The alternative would be to allow exceptions for coding to specific hardware and falling back on standard calls for everything else, or to develop an open standard for doing more general purpose stuff on the GPU. The former would only benefit a small subset of video cards and probably isn't worth it in the long run. The latter is never going to happen unless Microsoft initiates it, since AMD and Nvidia like to keep their GPGPU stuff secret.

Not worth getting now. Play Risen if you haven't already. Wait for Risen 2 if you have.

I've only played the second one, but it's pretty damn good. My understanding is that only the first two games are worth it, and that the third one is supposed to be so buggy it's unplayable. Gothic II is on sale like every month, so I'd hold off.

  6. RE: No Time To Explain

So it's like Meat Boy but with a propulsion laser play mechanic?

    Yeah ok I'll get it.

  7. I take back what I said before. Gothic 3, and especially Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods are worth the super low price. I didn't realize they had added FG.

  8. I'd heard FG was horrible. I still bought it for $2.50, though.

  9. I only just started playing FG but it seems pretty much Gothic 3 except running better. I think this version includes the unofficial patch.

  10. I actually beat Gothic 3 pre-patched when it was mega broken yet I had no issues with the game. lol Actually had a decent time except for those damn boars that poke you to death. Maybe I'll give Forsaken Gods a shot.
