Freedom Planet is out as of maybe two days ago. Like Shovel Knight, it's another neo-retro game that came out of Kickstarter, this time in the style of a post-Sonic '90s mascot platformer. It's not a straight up Sonic clone, but it's very much in the style of games from that era. It doesn't go as far as to imitate a specific piece of hardware, but it pulls off the 16-bit feel pretty credibly.
There's a demo on the official site, but curiously not on Steam.

I like it so far, though. It's well made. Easy, but in a Sonic the Hedgehog kind of way. The art style is very Sonic Fan Art, but that's true of a lot of similar games from the era. Overall solid effort. It's not Shovel Knight, but it's not Mercenary Kings either.
