I don't know why SLI sucks so bad. I had two Voodoo2 cards back in the day and they just worked.

My guess would be because graphic cards did less back then. I don't mean power wise, I mean all they did was render an image. Now a days so much more seems to be done on them. Maybe I'm wrong but just a guess.

It's probably just bad luck, but every single nvidia card i've bought has died within a month or two of owning it, so i deal with AMD exclusively now. After dealing with some inexcusably terrible issues setting it up (having to underclock the 2d processor to get sound through to work through HDMI - I guess you're just fucked if you're not computer savy), I'm more than happy with my 7970 for now.

That's the exact opposite of my experience with those two companies. AMD had the most powerful cards but shit drivers and endless issues for me. Switched to Nvidia like 5 years ago and it's been a buttery-smooth dream.

My favourite ATI 'feature' is how it would decide to shitcan my multi-monitor configuration every time I dared to use my PC with just one monitor. I don't know if they still do that, but it was something I encountered with ATI cards for several years, even with the Mac drivers.

ATI's drivers are only there to fuck with people. They aren't supposed to actually do anything or assist the card in the any way, they just exist to eat up processing power and be as shitty as they possibly can.

It's a real shame, because the cards themselves seem pretty cool.

I've been AMD for awhile now, since for a long time they were really simple to hack into FireGL cards to run my animation software better/faster. Now that you can't do that, they still run Maya better (at least in my experience) than the Nvidia ones. Though I don't game as much on my PC.
