Thread: Newsweek: Xbox 360 Won't Win the Console War

  1. The thing I find interesting is that everybody sits here and talks about how SONY has no exclusives besides MGS 4/FF 13 (possibly) and that this is totally in MS’s favor. Spin it the other way folks. MS really only has GoW and later on Halo 3 (that mainstream will care about, I don’t count GTA 4 cause it’s only time “exclusive”). This makes both systems basically identical software wise. At this point SONY still has blu-ray and their name going for them despite the rocky start and higher price tag. For whatever reason people are still fence sitting and it’s not all COMPLETELY positive for MS.

    Hi, I'm inflation. Apparently you've never heard of me before. I'm the reason a gallon of milk doesn't cost a nickel anymore.

  3. The industry/market is bigger than ever, so the idea of a "loser" in the console war is a bit unfounded.

    That said, both MS and Sony are losing money currently. It could be argued that the true winner in videogames is Nintendo- at least they are making a profit.

  4. 360 has an enormous games-to-systems tie-in ratio. Couple that with all the money they're making from Live Arcade and Marketplace, I'm pretty damn sure any costs they're losing on console production are being offset.

  5. They're making money on peripherals too.

    they are breaking even with the $400 pack. i think joystiq had an article last week saying they actually now turn a profit on the premium pack. but i already said this in my last post.

    Add to that, no built-in wireless (wtf, my $130 DS has it and it came out a year earlier), lol backwards incompatability, the junkiest put-together console in history (I think one breaks every 5 seconds) and shitty customer service. Nearly every mag has commented that 360 games look marginally better than the first XBox (excluding GOW). No, MS has not done everything right.
    PSN = knarlockk
    Steam= kevinb150

    You're seriously going to try to play the graphics card in March 2007? Show me the Xbox game that looks like Lost Planet, GRAW, or Oblivion, since GoW is the only one you list.

    GRAW sounds like it should be a FPS where you play a 40-something death-metal dude who walks around with his guitar bobbing around in front of him. You electrify demons to death with your tasty licks.

    I was quite dissapointed when I found out it was another damn Clancy game, so you can cross that off your list right now.
