Ending was a shitty cop out
Michael Parks was good in this. The movie itself was mediocre, but at least a different kind of mediocre than the usual Kevin Smith movies.

Parks was pretty damn cool.
I hate the kid that was going to help the girl. No matter what his expression, he always looks like he's crying.
Stephen Root's character was too...something. When I think of southern sheriff, I don't think of a guy who acted like him. (and no, I'm not talking about his first scene. I'm talking about his general personality.)
I agree with Frog. Very mediocre, but at least different from Smith's usual mediocrity.
I liked it a lot. I thought it mixed horror and humor very well. Not an Oscar winner by far but still I enjoyed the ride. The final line of the movie was pretty much the best way to end it.
Mosier is working on a cartoon I believe. No breakup for sure. Smodcast is still going strong.
I don't think the movie itself will be an award winner, but I hope and think Parks deserves some recognition for that role. Maybe even Goodman or Leo.
I like Kevin Smith as a personality, and I find his podcast, as ribald and stupid as it is, pretty enjoyable. As a director I have a kind of cool respect for him. I like many of his movies, I dislike many as well. I watched Red State yesterday and enjoyed it for the most part, though it's structurally and tonally wonky as get out. The dude ecked a good performance out of Michael Parks, and John Goodman was good as well, but Smith shifts from a more traditional horror film to a hostage film to an assault film and back again so quickly that you never really get a solid grasp of why you should give single hell about any of the characters. Hell, the latter half of the movie seems like it has an entirely different group of protagonists than the first. It's just weird. I like the tone, but, yeah, it seems a lot like one of his pot-induced yarns that he goes on in his podcast, jumping into new directions lickity split.
I thought the Apocalypse horns at the end was actually sort of creepy. I kind of wish Smith went with it, vindicating the crazy as being right, but at the same time I could probably complain at how utterly ridiculous that would have been
