Thread: Final Fantasy

  1. Final Fantasy

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy:

I imagine that most of you all have played some kind of Final Fantasy game, whether you like Square or not. And, though you may begrudgedly admit, the character design in those games is amazing. Every incarnation of the series has a whole cast of different characters from the previous games. And the characters that remain the same get an aesthetic overhaul. I look forward to each new Final Fantasy, if only to see the characters. And the stories, though highly recycled, keep me entertained long enough to finish the games.

What do you like or dislike about Final Fantasy? And why?

Sometimes I think most of you dislike them just because it's "cool." Well? Ante up, bitches!

  2. I still like Final Fantasy to a certain extent, I just don't look forward to each installment as much as I used to. Part of my reasons for disliking it are because of part 8, and the fact that there seems to be less and less fantasy and more sci fi. Plus the almost yearly installments don't do much for me. I play them, but their not high on my priority list.

  3. Lets the bitches come through, and then starts posting:

Well, I'm a FF fan. I even like the most unanimisly(sp?) hated FF8. I like them for grand storylines(like in FF3 for example), worlds full of magic and fantasy, unique presentations on the big scale, cool character designs(and yes I like characters from more recent FF games more than old super deformed chars. I liked Amano illustrations for FF3, but didnt like sp-deformend ones in the game that much), beautiful music, woderful cut scenes from the recent FF games, I own them all on the GCI compilations disks .

There are alot of hate for more recent FF games and Square around us. Some do it because its cool, and to look "hardcore" in the eyes of the people around them. So what if ECM hated FF8, I still like it, and no one will convince me in the opposite. Many people feel nostalgic of the FF of old, and always compare them to the new ones, and since the memories of good things in the past might be strong, they affect the judgement of the current games, so they dont look as good anymore.

I'm a a fan of Final Fantasy whenever they really try to do something new and different. Probably my reasons for liking FF8 and FFX the most. Where the unconventional battle systems go, I go as well, it's probably the most important aspect in RPGs for me, since I can sit through a mediocre story if the battle system is good. I also love any FF with a really good sense of atmosphere and design, FF6 is a good example.

  5. Well I guess I fall under the not most because I happen to be the biggest Final Fantasy fan on these boards

The characters definately make the games, some of the most favorite characters and maybe so not so well liked ones too.

Although I really don't have too much to complain about and what I do has to do more with RPG's in general... the one thing I do wish that Square would make one with a werewolf as one of the main characters, I sneak this suggestion into every letter / evaluation I send them

  6. i really like the FF games... although i still think FF8 was terrible... the characters were not likeable, and the "love story" was more believeable in FF7/9, where it didn't even claim to be focusing on the love story...

... my favorite is probably FF7, maybe because it was my first PSX game... but it was definately revolutionary for it's time...

but the best cast has to be from FF9, since Vivi is the coolest character ever!...

I have played and enjoyed every FFgame released in the states (and stumbled through the two that were not.)

Out of them all seven, and ten really stand out. Nine is horrible. And yes I like Eight. I really enjoyed the (sappy) story.

I don't know if I am alone in this, but I have not (and probably never will) go back and replay the SNES Final Fantasys. But I replay the psx ones('cept nine) all the time.

    Nine is horrible.
Heh, glad to see I'm not the only one who thought so.

ooooowheeee! man i just loved how cloud shrugged every 2 minutes. what? i just beat a boss..? c'mon SHRUG. what? aeris died....SHRUG AGAIN!? i often wondered if they mo-capped the shrug cause i'd hate to be the poor sap whose job it was to routine that into the game every 2 minutes. SHRUG SHRUG.....i couldnt get into 8 because it was too ugly. yes one of the few times a games graphics held me back...but it was horrible looking and it fealt like an episode of Saved by the Bell. what about 9? well i dunno....playeda lot of it but just got bored and stopped. that knight with his clanking sounds i guess was supposed to be endearing but it annoyed me to no end like the SHRUGGING!

listen Square...if you wanna recycle something do it and do it evil like Kefka's laugh. MUWAHHAHAHAHA! or something like that.

i have played the rest of the games and 6 is by far my favorite. the first time i had a dream sequence with shadow in my party i thought the SNES was breaking! spent the later half of that day getting the rest of them. and to anyone who thinks Palom and Porum are the saving graces of the 2nd (4th) game....Yang's got something to say. that bitch got blown up with the cannon and you think he's all but dead only to find out hes not. YANG=Bitchin

i also loved Edgar and Sabin. what's that....RPG's seem to boring....THROW A FIREBALL! still seem boring....grind shit up with Edgar's Chainsaw! man the way he'd spin with that thing!

    to much rambling....

My vote is cast for Steiner.

I loved FFIX too. The only thing I didn't like about it was that they focused on the "crystals coming back" in their ad campeigns, but were actually decieving us. The whole "crystal" ting in FFIX was a joke. Game was great tough.

I like FFVIII as well. I like the retro-future spin Square gives this series. And I love the characters.

It is time now, for you to announce your favorite Guardian Force, Aeon, Summon, or whatever you want to call them.

Mine? Alexander from FF8 and 9. He is my absolute favorite. He should've been in FFX.
