The update doesn't sound too promising for HD-DVD.
The update is still a mistranslation. It's talking about the blue laser in the drive, not Blu Ray. This is straight up HD-DVD only.

Considering that right now you can get a HD-DVD player from Walmart for $350 and the cheapest Blu-Ray player they sell is the PS3 at $600 (the stand alone player is $900) I think it's far more likely that a HD-DVD player will be the first to drop to sub $250.
But we'll see.
