Thread: NY State Senate Passes Video Game Bill

  1. We'd better establish a Parent-Teacher Anti-Violence Awareness Program to work with students and children on issues related to violence in books, movies, TV, comics, the internet, and our government while we're at it.

It's a good thing judges across the United States disagree with you. This law will be struck down, like all the others. Free Speech FTW.

    Time for a change

  5. There is no call for censorship in the bill, so I don't think it will be shot down.
I have no problem with what's in there. I do think it's a total knee-jerk reaction, but whatever.

  6. The bill's sponsor mentioned that VT Massacare flash game when pushing this tripe. He really thinks that game was made by the games industry.

It scares me to think that our elected leaders are that out of touch with technology, youth culture and in general how they exist today.

"You mean some 14 year old kid made this in his bed room on his computer?!, UNPOSSIBLE!"

At least he's smart enough to know that education is the answer, and not censorship.

Depends on whether a "this game was not rated" sticker would be an accepted ratings label. I doubt it. If it's not, used games from the pre-ESRB era, imports, and indy games would all be outlawed.

Besides which, it's already well established that legally-enforced ratings ARE censorship - requiring a rating, even if enforcing it isn't required, seems awfully near the line to me.

You live in Germany? Because in the US, games actually are free speech.

  10. You have to remember that many of Hitler's dreams and ideals are still supported over there, including banning games.

Unless the chicks are with tapping, I'd say move out.
