Also, that's a pretty bullish number from Nintendo. They've been fairly conservative with their public estimates before this. Though if they can fix their supply problem and drop the price to $150, I don't see the number as too far-fetched.

As I've said a million times before: The PS2 gen was powerful enough to do pretty much any game I wanted it to do. I've never played a last gen game and thought to myself "This game sucks now, but it would rule with much better graphics!".
A definate "more power=more fun" wall has been hit.
People would shell out the big bucks for the NES/SMS gen because the games could be more than single screen super-simple games.
People would shell out the big bucks for the SNES/Gen/TG16 gen because now the game style of the last generation would no longer look like ass.
People would shell out the big bucks for the PS/Saturn/N64 generation because now games were 3D.
People would shell out big bucks for the DC/PS2/Xbox/Cube generation because now the game style of the last generation would no longer look like ass.
Well... Now with the Zboz and PS3, what do we get? We're not adding a new dimension and last gen's games already looked acceptable. Too much money just to look jaw-dropping instead of mearly great.
Nintendo's strategy of afordable hardware and games with the bizzarro controller was just what most people needed.

I dunno, I thought Shadow of the Colossus needed better hardware from when the demo came out, all throughout the entire game, and after the fact. No wall was hit.
Do I think a lot of Wii games are just fine as they are? Sure. Do I think they'd have been better if their graphics were improved? Most definitely.
But as far as I recall, you don't see the need for HD at all, so I see no purpose in trying to argue this with you. If we stopped when things were "good enough" we might still be shitting in outhouses.
Oh, right. Silly me. There must be some other reason that the zboz is lagging behind the sales numbers of the original xbox and nobody seems to want a PS3 at all. Hopefully that other reason also explains why Wiis sell within 2 minutes of hitting the shelves.
Couldn't be because the Zboz and PS3 are way too expensive and primarily offer an improvement in an area that didn't need to be improved (graphics) and that the wii is acually priced like a damn video game console and is plenty powerful enough anyway. That couldn't be what's happening, because I never know what I'm talking about.![]()
I'm with you on the Zboz and PS3 being too expensive, but you've got to be kidding me about the graphics. Look at Gears of War, the graphics are taking leaps beyond the PS2 gen, and they sure as hell did need improvement. SOTC is a great example of a game that just tried to do too much for the PS2 gen.
And as said before, the power is used for other things too. You think things like Bioshocks AI would be possible on the last gen consoles? Or even on the Wii for that matter.

Then you clearly haven't played any early ps2 games recently. Most of them look like complete ass, May Payne is a fantastic example. I loved it back when it came out but it's aged like boxed wine.
