Thread: The Workout Thread

  1. Oh I'm sticking with it. My gut burns at around 105. I push through it and about 120 is when the gut is really hurting and thats when my neck starts. So at that point I'm probably doing it wrong.

I went from 230 to 195. And I am eating healthier .. no choice really. And yeah I walk and run my dog for about 45 minutes to an hour. The complex around here is on a hill so I walk down the hill first and then go around the complex, which is when I go back up the hill. PLUS, I live on the fourth floor and no elevator so I walk up 8 flights of steps. So, yeah all in all I think I'm doing okay for myself.

oh and Dole .. I am weak son. Only 20 pushups.

The range of motion for a crunch done correctly is actually very, very small. Look it up online, there's probably animated gifs and videos showing you how.
i would say if his neck hurts he's using more of his arms to pull him up (and thus lifting slightly, but badly on his neck). crunches aren't as easy to do 100% effictlively as they may seem. if i've done any ab work i either use a medicine ball or the ankle hang.

  3. Ok. So I'm hitting the gym once again and I'd like to get my max bench up to 250. I was able to do 230 when I was in college when I weighed about 160, but it's been a while since then. My weight has pretty much stayed the same and I'm currently able to do sets (3-5 reps per) of 180 with relative ease. I'm thinking my max would be around 205-210 - give or take - right now.

What should I do to increase it by 50 lbs? Is it realistic to think this? I don't take or have ever taken any supplements or creatine, or any shit like that to help with my strength. I'd like to do this au naturale if I can.

    Ideas?

  4. Wrestle a wild stallion to the ground and tear its testicles off with your teeth. Then, and only then will you have passed the true test of manhood, and you'll be able to break the 230 plateau.

I was waiting for that rip. Let me guess, uncontrollable laughter after reading my post? Who else am I going to ask - you?

  6. Honestly? I was thinking about Bill & Ted's while this thread was loading. It wasn't too far of a stretch to work in a Wyld Stallyns reference and still remain at least semi-topical.

Also: everyone here is going to tell you about max ot. Google it.

  7. Haha... I was expecting the "cover the mouth" kind of laugh.

There appears to be enough "meathead" in this thread to provide some advice.

Also: Too lazy to google and go through the hassle. I have things to do.

  8. The advice is going to be "read about max ot."

Anthony: I don't really care if she takes all the dicks in france.

I'm clocking in at about 207 right now, and I'm pretty happy with it. I was probably about 220 when you met me in NYC this past winter.

No shame at all in doing 20 pushups. It's never about how much weight you can push, it's about how hard you work.

You're probably right. He's probably getting to the point where his abs are getting exhausted and he starts compromising his form by pulling more with his arms, thus bothering his neck.

Advocate, I'd say an easy way to avoid that is not to lace your fingers behind your head. I see a lot of guys doing crunches by just touching the tips of their fingers to the sides of their heads instead. This way, your abs do all the work and not your arms. You might not get as many reps, but at least they'll be correct and your neck will probably feel better.

Rent American Psycho. Pat Bateman actually uses pretty good form on his crunches.

Google Max-OT (Maximum Overload Training). We talked about it a lot in the old workout thread.

    Um, yeah. What Josh said.

But if you're too lazy to Google Max-OT, then you're probably too lazy to actually do it. Enjoy being a little bitch weakling.
