Why the Xbox having a HDD is great...

Lately, there have been a lot of arguements about the Xbox's HDD being useless. I don't even have an Xbox yet and I can say that it could be further from the truth. First of all, no need to buy a Memory Card. This is a Godsend for me. Once I get one(probably in September), all I have to do is hook it up and play. 64 MB of memory at my disposal? Hell yes!! People who argue about this obviously forget about the 45$ PS2 Memory Card that you HAVE to buy. Secondly, I've heard that people say it serves no real purpose. Again, COMPLETELY UNTRUE. If it was, then Sony and Nintendo(to an extent) wouldn't spend time and resources trying to get one out there. Having one internally gives the Xbox a big advantage. Whatever the installed user base is for the Xbox, the HDD equals it, while it would take Sony longer to sell that many HDD's. Besides, having the HDD lets the Xbox cache information and data, process it at high speeds, freeing up the CPU for other things(music, graphics, etc). Having the ability for custom soundtracks(although few games let you do this)is great as well. Developers have only begun to tap the power and necessity of the Xbox HDD, and once they get a handle on it, expect much greater things in the future.

  2. Nintendo making a Harddrive? Please.

Uh... when did the PS2 memory card go from $35 to $25 and then $45?!

The HDD has potential... but it's not being tapped. That's all I'm saying.

  3. not having to bother with any sort of memory-management is fantastic...

... and using your music in games is another great feature...

... hey, cool... I think every time I click on this thread the "Views" tally increments by one in the thread listings...

  5. it all balances out in the long run. you don't have to pay $30 for a memory card with the xbox, but you do have to pay $30 for the dvd controller. it's the other way around with the ps2. you don't have to pay $30 for the dvd controller, but you have to pay $30 for the memory card.

  6. Maybe one day Zidane can store gay Metal Gear Solid porn onto his XBox HDD.

Nintendo's hard drive is coming out the same date as the Super Nes CD upgrade. Bodacious dude! Far out!

But you don't have to watch DVDs on the X-Box if you don't want to. However, most gamers are DEFINATELY going to want to save games. AND, 30 bucks will let you watch all the DVDs you ever buy, whereas a 30 dollar memory card will only let you save a limited number of games.

  8. ... and you have to pay for the PS2 remote don't you?

Yeah, but in his defence, the X-Box DVD remote is REQUIRED to watch DVDs, but the PS2 DVDs can be accessed without such a thing.

Of course, about 40% of the DVDs I've tried are incompatible with the PS2 after the layer change.

By the same token though, the X-Box DVD player seems to have some personal problem with the color red.

That's why I only use my dedicated DVD player now.
