  6. Couple of interesting developments to talk about in Transformerdom. First off, Fansproject, the makers of the awesome Ultra Magnus add-on kit from a couple years ago, have released their first standalone figure, an homage to G1 Springer, and it looks pretty bad-ass:

Secondly, images have started showing up (see them here and here) of Hasbro's major new line for this fall, Power Core Combiners. The idea is to take the classic gestalt concept and... totally fuck it up. Don't get me wrong, kids are gonna love these, but for us collectors, it's a total step backwards from even the crappy Energon gestalts they just re-released at Target.

They're going to be sold in two formats - a five-pack with one core and four limbs for $20, and a two-pack with a core and a mini-con for $10. The problem is that, while the cores get their own robot and vehicle modes in addition to serving as the torso in the gestalt, and the mini-cons get a robot form and weapon mode (which can be wielded by a core robot or bolted onto a core vehicle or gestalt - like the Energon versions, the gestalts don't have functioning hands), the limbs don't get their own robot modes. Just vehicle and limb, same as ROTF Devestator.

On the plus side, they are universally interchangeable - you can slap any limb onto any core, and likewise for the mini-cons. Too bad they indicate the connection points with bright blue plugs that make the core robot look totally stupid by itself. Also the mini-cons are molded in transparent plastic. WTF kind of robot is see-through? One that turns into my old Game Boy from 1993, that's what.

universally interchangeable isn't anything special. I think the G1 devastator was the only combiner in the original line that wasn't interchangeable. Hell, they were so interchangeable you could stick them on Metroplex.

Anybody interested in this box of toys? It's going to goodwill if you're not. No I'm not going through it and telling you what all is in there. It is 12x12x8 of stuff.

Give me money and get it the fuck out of here.
