The Sony chief said that the PS3 is already on the comeback trail and it's going to be vital to the company's growth. Wait how is it a comeback, it hasn't sold any more than it did before?
The article is from a shareholders meeting speech, and kind of omits the context in which he was speaking. He was talking to shareholders abot Sony as a whole; they've done very well with Sony/Ericsson cellphones, Bravias and Cybershots, and the company as a whole is much healthier than they were after being in rough shape for a while.
As for the PS3, the hardware is now profitable and Blu ray has pretty much stomped HD DVD. There's your comeback.
