Thread: Has anyone written a decent video capture util ever?

  1. Has anyone written a decent video capture util ever?

No one seems to be able to get this right. Fraps only works in certain programs in XP. In Vista it captures the whole screen, all the time (which is fine) but it isn't compatible with Windows Vista's sound drivers, so there's no sound.

VirtualDub records the audio off the mic and seemingly only supports 320x240 files, which makes no sense to me.

SnagIt works great, but it does that record from the mic horseshit.

Is there a decent video capture utility in existence, or am I basically fucked?

  2. Might be an obvious question, but those programs record from the mic even after changing the system audio recording device?

  3. There's nothing I can change it to. Windows doesn't have an "Output is Input" option to my knowledge.

  4. In XP, it's Volume Control > Options > Properties > Adjust volume for recording

Then check the "select" checkbox of the device you want.

  5. You know, I've been using Windows forever, and I never saw that option. Seems to work. It's too loud, though and I can't actually adjust the slider, which results in some audio clipping. I'll figure it out.

    Thanks for the tip.

  6. Try using DScaler. I didn't know it did video capture until recently.

VirtualDub only lets me capture 320x240 with my capture card (WinTV) but I think DScaler does full res.
