Dude takes a year to pay me back because he's barely covering his bills, I have no problem with that.

But anyway, there's only been a handful of people over the years I considered actual "friends." They're the people that if they needed money, it was a gift not a loan.
The people I've had trouble with were acquaintances or friends of family.
Why be either? Sounds like petty resentments up ins.
Oh man there's this person I don't like very much who wants some money, I better give them some money so people can think I'm such a great guy!
Nobody's twisting your arm, the other people on the bus aren't loaning that person money. Why take up this burden of charity if it's just going to make you bitter?

perhaps we have different definitions of friends vs acquaintances. How much I "like" someone has little to do with it, since if I didnt like the person he'd be neither.
