Is your leader targeting self?
Because they hate you? I have no idea.

Just beat it, around 80 hours and party level 47. Quite a finale - the final boss was a lot like the Vagrant Story one, which was awesome.
I didn't finish the hunts and sidequests. I wasted the last boss, so I certainly don't need to level up any more. I'd only do everything else for completion, but right now I'm just done.
Best gaming experience I've had since Metroid Prime. I'll remember this one for a long time.

How is everyone powering up their party so much? I'm heading to Mt Bur-Omisace with my party at level 23-27(and Balthier at 9 because he sucks). I've been playing 30 hours and I still barely have money to buy weapons and armor, let alone purchasing spells, so I hardly have any.
Magic costs too much to cast anyway, does shit for damage, and when you use it you lose your quickening because your MP isn't full anymore. I hate all the time spent on the stupid license board, and doing all the maintenance. If I play 50 hours probably 15 of that will just be on micro-management BS (which i thought would have subsided by hour 20 or so).
I feel like I'm doing something wrong, and am wasting tons of time. This game is frustrating. I just want spells to open up as I go! I want to find a new hat and equip it within 5 seconds! Everyone in my party has one quickening, I didn't even realize they could get more than one each till I searched this thread out. I have to figure out where the rest are now.
I want to stab myself in the face because I cannot get in the groove of this game. Besides that I like it.
Sounds to me like you haven't done enough grinding. Spending an hour or so accumulating stuff will often give you enough gil to upgrade.
You can also find or steal some weapons and armor. When grinding, I always had one party member (usually Penelo, since she doesn't deal much damage and is fast) do nothing but attempt to steal. You might not get much from one creature at a time, but by the end of an area, you can at least double your cache. And sometimes you'll steal a quality item. Building up battle chains gets you better loot, too.
You can also do the clan hunts for gil and equipment rewards.
And hey, I liked Balthier! If you're using guns with him, they ignore enemy defense, so despite the fact guns attack slowly, they do tons of damage. Plus he's a ranged combatant, which can help. I found it best to level up everyone equally, as you never know when you might need someone, but that's me.
Magic's hugely important, but less so for damage purposes imo. Healing and status inflicting/removal spells are vital, as you'll use those right through till the end. Quickenings are helpful early, but I found that in the second half, they're a waste of MP. They don't do enough damage to make a difference, and the MP is better used elsewhere.Magic costs too much to cast anyway, does shit for damage, and when you use it you lose your quickening because your MP isn't full anymore. I hear ya man - the game just doesn't give out much useful information itself.I feel like I'm doing something wrong, and am wasting tons of time. This game is frustrating. I just want spells to open up as I go! I want to find a new hat and equip it within 5 seconds! Everyone in my party has one quickening, I didn't even realize they could get more than one each till I searched this thread out. I have to figure out where the rest are now.
You can find where the quickenings are on the license board - just scan the tiles w/the cursor till you find them (they're all at the edges I think), and work your way towards them a bit at a time, a different one for each party member. They're spaced equally, and some of them are close together, which helps - I think there are two down in the technick corner, and two up in the accessory corner.
Oh, equip the Golden Amulet accessory as soon as you can, as they double LP for everyone in your party, even reserved ones. The doubling and tripling of MP you get as a result of unlocking quickenings is extremely helpful.
Are each of your party members specialized? That helps both with LP decisions and battle performance, plus makes it easier and faster for each to get 3 quickenings. I used Fran and Balthier as ranged fighters/healers, Basch as my tank, Vaan and Ashe as fighter/magic combos, and Penelo as a technick/steal specialist.
FFXII seems easier if you've got a long-term plan in place for everyone, and work towards it one tiny step at a time.
I loved the micro-managing, personally. And to be honest, I approached team-building a lot like a fantasy sports team - creating a diverse combination of skills and specialties - so that helped with the process.I want to stab myself in the face because I cannot get in the groove of this game. Besides that I like it.

As you move along the license grid, you'll acquire a bunch of licenses that'll A) pump up your MP by a ton, B) give you MP when you defeat enemies with magic, and C) make spells require less MP in the first place. Equip your spellcaster with one of those accessories that give double license points, try doing a couple of hunts for kicks and focus on the magic licenses. You'll be a spell casting machine tossing out spells left right & centre without a second thought in no time.

I just made it too the Phon coast. I need to make some money to buy a couple sets of Diamond armor. Anyone know good creatures to hunt?
Nothing around Phon drops valuable stuff frequently enough. Last time I made a bunch of money on sturdy bones from Paramina Rift, but I'm hoping there is a better place out there.
