Get a full-face, since something like 40% of helmet impacts are to the left/right chin area. Also, go try the helmets on in-store--sizing on helmets is stupid inconsistent. You want something that fits very tight (especially since it'll wear in and loosen up a bit), about as tight as possible without being especially uncomfortable. If you go into a moto shop, they should have no problem letting you try on some lids and walk around the store in them. Serious. Wear it for a few minutes to make sure there aren't any pressure points that'll bug you after a while.

You can spend a little or a lot on a helmet. I went with a pretty cheap HJC model that I read about online and was well-reviewed. It's not as nice as a $300+ helmet, but it's got solid enough venting to be good in warm weather. I've just recently started looking at nicer helmets, and I'm thinking I'll get the Shoe RF-1000 as they're pretty nice and can be had online relatively cheap. You can spend upwards of $600 if you gotta be ballin'.

Josh, I would definitely recommend a full-face. As you know, you'll already look like a homo, so might as well not break your face. I can't deny that the open face/goggles look "matches" scooters a lot better, though. Shit, it's better than 95% of the people around here; no helmet and flip-flops. And talking on a cell phone.

Funny thing: Everytime you guys talk about scooters the song "Steal my sunshine" by Len plays in my head.

Yesterday I made an impulse bid on a one-piece leather riding suit that's just about my size. Kind of ugly, but hey, it's a Vanson! And I accidentally won it, lol.

Hah, the lightning/faux rips aren't the hottest, but can't beat the price!

That's my justification... From talking to the guy, it won't be super snug on me, which will hopefully allow me to use it for quite a while in the future. At least I'm not paying $1000+ that a new one costs.
