Thread: Official Car Thread :: Vol 2 :: Now with More Bikes!

  1. OK, so I'm going to start reading this thread.

    I bought one of these:

...a couple weeks ago. It's a 2009 Crossbones. I wasn't thrilled about buying a Harley, but it was my Dad's idea and he bought it so I wouldn't have to pay interest and now I have to pay him back.

I still rode the fence on it for a couple of months until this gem came out. The crossbones is a vintage looking 40's springer complete with 40-50's pinstripes and bobbed fenders, and those fat tires and sharp handling called out to me like a fresh pot of coffee.

I got a lot of work I need to do to it still. I plan on buying the stage 2 kit to covert the engine from a 96 cu in to a 103. And right now it purrs like a kitten, when a Harley should roar like a lion. So, I'm going to take the baffles out. I don’t know what I’m doing so I’ll have to get help. There's also the sissy bar and passenger foot pegs which just came in I need to install.

So anyhow, I know at least one you has a bike. So, I'm here to join the club.

I'm not a devious man by nature... but when you're unarmed, your tactics might gonna be downright Archimedean.

  3. I hate loud Harleys. Cars have noise regulations, bikes need them too.

LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!

  4. Yeah, I'm not keen on the idea of it being insanely loud, which removing the baffles sound like it would do. But right now it has almost zero tone, where older bikes or ones with aftermarket mufflers are no louder than a diesel truck yet you can steal hear every corner of the engine.

Doc, that's a sharp bike. My main problem with Harleys is how many accessories people load up on them. The Sportster Nightster, however, is beautiful. As is yours; I love the bobber look.

  6. Thanks! Yeah, I want this bike to stay as stripped as possible, since that was the idea behind the bobber. I'm even weary about adding the passenger seat and sissy bar, but they'll be detachable.

Before I leave Texas, I’m planning a 900 miles in 3 days trip around Texas to practice for my 2010 US Tour from Madawaska, ME to San Diego, CA.

Doc, what kind of gear are you looking to wear? Please say black helmet, boots, jeans, and black leather jacket.

  8. I'll post pictures. I have black bike boots that look like cowboy boots. I've got an old leather jacket that I'm going to condition tonight, then this weekend spray paint in white the B.R.M.C. logo on.

My helmet is a canvas army green half helmet from Bell with Born to Kill Sharpied on it. But I'll end up getting a retro black one.

  9. I'm replacing a worn out seat belt on my Escort and fuck did Ford make it hard to get to the damn belts. I also want to check on some AC shit and fuck did Ford make it hard to dig into the dash. God dammit!

I've never known of AC work being easy, ever. Check out this evaporator replacement, for example.
