What is a ricer's fascination with pulling off USDM labels for their cars and slapping JDM labels on it? Especially if it means slapping badges of an "inferior" brand?

Case in point, a ricer thinks it would be cool to rename his Acura RSX into a Honda Integra cuz doodz that's what the JDMers do!!! But the vehicle will carry an Acura RSX vin number, they're always LH drive so I know they weren't imported and Acura is considered a premium brand so why would one want to "decontent" their car?

240sx to Silvia are also a big offender. Am I weird for thinking that if a car maker wants to call vehicle A, vehicle A in any given market it should remain vehicle A?
It's not just a Japanese thing. I've seen a number of US GTOs converted to LHD Holden Monaros. I dunno, gives the car a bit of uniqueness and isn't a lie or anything, so it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't pay to rebadge my car (maybe to debadge) but I'm not much into brands.

But a new GTO doesn't even look that much like a Monaro but no matter how much effort one puts into a car it won't be JDM/ADM etc. car they want it to be. It's sort of like a sex change for your car. It may look a little different but if you dig into it it's still (insert car here). I guess it's just gonna be something I just don't get.

I'm serious about this. Are you saying like a japanese guy buys a GT-R and then goes back to Japan with the car and rebadges it a Skyline R? Is that what you mean?

Or are you saying an American Ricer buys a 2000 Mirage and then rebadges it a Lancer?

Cause both means he can then do the technical splicing of the car and make it a fully badged Japanese car. Eevn though the VIN is not the case.

    That would be rebadging.

Because its a "mod" you can do to make your car personal, but it doesn't require any skill at all, nor does it do anything to enhance the car.

In other words, a perfect ricer mod.

This, I feel is a little different, because the Monaro looks quite different from a GTO. There is also the Nissan s14/Silva front end swap, which I can also understand. There is a local guy here converting a Dodge Magnum to a 300C Touring that we never got over here, thats fine.

Slapping a Silvia badge on a plain 240 is retarded. I see lots of 350zs around here too with "fairlady" on the back. We get it. You can use a heat gun. Whoopie. Your car is stil a slow, fat pig.

  8. Have you guys seen all the 370z spy shots out there? It's still ugly, it looks almost exactly the same, but it's shorter and supposed to be lighter. Supposedly better interior materials too. I don't like the Z much, but I have to give Nissan credit for always pushing to make it better. I wish Mazda would at least try to keep up.
