Do any of you guys know anything about renting/buying a shop/garage?
My room mate has showed some interest in helping me fix some old trucks I have laying around. Mostly all 80s blazers. Me and my dad have about 500-1k in each. Once they are fixed up, you can sell them for 3-6k. All them are missing something simple like a rear axle or a tailgate. All need air conditioners. But they all have military diesel engines that run like tops and get 26 mpg (not bad for a 80s truck!).
I also want to put a table saw in there and build some amp cabs to put on ebay.
anyway, do any of you guys rent/own a separate building to do your manly man work in?
I was thinking about asking around craigslist and doing some driving tomorrow to look for buildings.
Anyone got any ideas on buildings that banks have foreclosed on?
I really just want something to keep the rain off and the god damn horrible MS heat and humidity out.
In some big cities there are garages specifically for rent to folks who want to work on cars but don't have their own space and/or tools. Those are by-the-hour rentals. I'm sure on Craigslist you can find basic garages for rent monthly, it's very common at least here in SF where a garage is a luxury.
My future-parents-in-law are in town this week. My fiancee and her mom went to see some Juliet Roberts movie tonight so I took the dad on a ride on my favorite motorcycling roads, though in the Miata. This car is a blast, love revving it out without doing illegal speeds. Top down along the coast, sun setting over the ocean, salty air enveloping my face--this is fantastic.
One of the defining lines between a car guy and a car poser is whether they think something like the Miata is a chick car. I know some pretty hardcore guys on the track scene who own these things because you can buy a cheap one from 1990, mod it for peanuts and drift the hell out of it.
While I'm looking at something with a bigger engine for my next bike (up around the 8-900cc range), I gotta admit the Versys is really tempting. It doesn't have a really cool marque like the street triple or shiver, but it does absolutely everything I'd want a bike to do - upright rider triangle, adjustable windscreen, hardbag mounts, it's like a sport tourer that can go offroad like a motard. Engine's only 650cc, but it gets up to 194 kmph on the dyno which is really more than I'd ever need, and beats out the other stuff in its class (f650gs, V-Strom) in pretty much every category, including price. They're pretty cheap (around 6-7 grand).
Kawasaki just needs to make a slightly bigger one of these with a bit more low end grunt and I'm sold.

It sounds like you need a Ducati Multistrada. Except the price is probably at least double the Versys.
The new Multiss are pretty rad looking, though off road ability is exaggerated from what I've read. Versys probably also ain't much better off road than most bikes, but most bikes are better off road than people think. Provided you go slow.
