Being a hatch, the Fit, though smaller, has better use of its space and has a bit of flexibility to store things.
And being smaller is one of its selling points for cities.
Though I've never been in a Fit, I'm much more intrigued by it. It's a true small car, unlike the Civic which is now not very small at all. You're right about the pricing, though--it should be cheaper, though if they're selling out of them at the current price, like the Wii it doesn't make sense to lower it.
Everything's better with a manual, and gas mileage certainly can be if you try. Or it can be worse if you enjoy driving everywhere in third gear. This is particularly true when you're not paying for the gas. And maybe happen to be driving a Bullitt through some awesomely twisty roads.

I like manuals myself, my sports car is a manual.
However, for winter in Ohio, you probably would prefer to have a automatic while slogging through 2 feet of snow.
What sports car do you have Biffy B?
Didn't read the old thread did ya?
I have a 98 Cavalier for the winter and the airport. And I have a Saturn Sky Redline for the summer.

Are you going to bring it to (gulp) NYC?
Probably because it's small and good for going around the city.
Parking and insurance are insane here.
Part of my assinine rent includes a parking spot in a garage so I'm good there. Insurance isn't too bad if you're old like me.
I am old like you. Once you get your NYC license I can have my insurance agent get you a good rate provided you drive less than 7500 miles a year (not exactly hard to do).
