Also the Ridgline might be alright because it's a 4 door truck, but it still is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. Half beds are just ugly.

  2. I don't like these sport trucks/half beds things. You might as well eat cereal with ginger-ale.

  3. Fun with fueleconomy.gov. 2 cylinder vs. 8 cylinder!

  4. 28.8 is pretty much what I have on my G5 through my 1000 miles of driving. I'm fairly happy with that.

I remember at the Car and Auto show there was a guy talking about the Chevy malibu with the electric/gas hybrid. He said it brings it's city up from 22 to 24 because the electric runs while idling.

That's all? You throw in electric and you just get a 2 mpg increase overall from when you stop? that seemed kind of well.. weak and silly too me.

There are different levels of hybrid systems, and so far GM's have been of the +2 or 3 mpg variety. Not real impressive, but they're a lot cheaper than hybrid tech in some other cars, so realistically they'll pay for themselves before the full hybrids do. I think it was Motor Trend that did an article comparing a few hybrids with that math. Still, it's not impressive.

Also, a rotary has two cylinders? I thought it had none.

It doesn't have any. Sites just slap that in there to represent the 2 rotors so it can fit into their classification system. Ebay motors almost always has them listed as 2 cylinders too.

I thought it was funny that almost everything was the same between our two cars. I was surprised that I was a 6 on the air pollution score and you only got a 3. The rx8 has a super expensive cat on it from the factory, that might have something to do with it.

Technicaly each rotor is 3 cylinders, they just move around differently.

Its the consumed engine oil=worse emmisions. The core reason you don't see anyone else other than Mazda make them.

Also patent rights etc. For their size nothing else compares however. I've considered the idea of whether or not one can hitch a turbo rotary up to a beetle rear transaxle in a Ford Festiva to haul tons of ass.

Rotaries were tested a lot in the past but only Mazda felt like sticking with it and turning it into more of a marketing gimmick than anything else.

The Rotary is not a gimmick at all. It has some characteristics that make driving it great compared to a piston engine. It has some drawbacks too. It shouldn't be dismissed as a gimmick, although I'm not sure if that's what you were getting at exactly.

I'd say that each rotor is doing the work of 3 cylinders at the same time (intake, compression, combustion, one on each face).[/nitpick]

The rx8's emissions are better than the GTOs, that's what I was surprised about. Unless I am reading it wrong.
