Thread: Official Car Thread :: Vol 2 :: Now with More Bikes!

A little bit of the enthusiast inside me dies when someone decides on a Camry instead of a TSX, but
    1. It's not my money to spend
    2. I realize not everyone has the same priorities as I do
    3. Toyota is a good company.

Cliff notes: Toyota confirms rust problem in trucks and offers 1.5x max KBB value buy-back no questions asked, so long as the truck is 15 years old or newer. If put towards a new Toyota truck, they add $1000 to that value.

This is gonna sound like a strange warning, but ...

My first car (and the only car I paid for) was a Toyota Corolla and it's comfy, smooth, and reliable. I've owned it for about 8 years now and really, had no mechanical problems at all. All I've had to do was oil changes, the occasional tire rotation, and replace brake pads, but that's all regular maintenance stuff. If you want a no-fuss car, my experience with Toyota says that it's a great choice.

But that's also my major problem with it. Because it's so reliable, I get envious seeing sportier cars, more luxurious cars, sexier cars out there, but my ideals of practicality won't let me. How could I upgrade, when I have a car in impeccable shape?

This is definitely a good problem to have, and it may sound petty that I bring it up. But because Toyota builds boring-to-drive cars, the reliability only makes things worse. You're stuck with a boring car for a longer time. I've met other Toyota owners who ended up feeling the same way. But depending on whether you actually like (or will come to like) driving, this point may not apply to you.

  4. You won't know true excitement until you know a massive engine fire. That's why a late model Super Beetle is the way to go.
    Donk

  5. i think...bandit should buy a lotus exige.

TSX has always been my first choice but seeing the way gas prices are and how the Camry Sports Edition is looking sexier and sexier, thats why I may go that route. The 2009+ TSX grille is hideous not to mention. Had the TSX offered more torque/HP and AWD, I would be all over it. If Acura decides to offer it for 2010 which is probably the year of the car I'll buy by the time I save money, I'll reconsider. But as of now, it would Camry SE would be my first choice. Oh yea..gotta factor in car insurance as well.

I would love to drive around in a sportier car and more luxurious car but I think the Camry SE is sporty enough for me. Looks is great but I also look at my wallet. Would I have the money to spend on expensive parts and gas over the long haul? There are speculations that gas may jump to $5 during the summer. Hell, I would get a hybrid but I'll wait for that or even biofuel/hydrogen cell car.

If I had the money, I'll buy a Telsa or a Nissan GT-R. But, I want to get a car by next year (summer 09) paid off in full in cash, start saving for house, get married and start a fam. Unless I hit the lotto!

  7. My boss has a Carola that's pushing I think 170k miles and still running fine. He says it's the cheapest car he's ever had.

  8. Complaining about your car's great reliability is stupid. If the car gets you where you need to go with reasonable gas mileage, it's a great car. Go and rent a sports car if you're really that unhappy. It'll save you repairs, insurance, and people breaking it open to steal shit out of it. Then you can bitch about how you can't put anything in it or seat more than one passenger comfortably.
    Donk

  9. At least get an Accord over the Camry, maybe even an Altima.

  10. My last accord drove over 320,000k and the only reason I got rid of it was because I got a new(er) car. There's a honda specialist out here that puts your picture on the wall as soon as you hit the "100,000" mile club and every other oil change is free after that. The clubs go up to 500,000 miles! Needless to say their walls are covered with pics.

Also they have this badass sculpture.
