    some yamaha papercraft

I'm thinking of getting a Yamaha Virago. I really like the 80+ mpg on it. And what the hell at Yamaha Japan keeping the DS250 to themselves. That thing gets like 118 mpg and looks great for a 250 cc bike.

Why don't we get the DS250? Here in the states motorcycle engine displacement = penis size. I hear guys all the time saying "Nah man a 600 sport bike is a waste of money and is too slow... get a literbike or a busa." Of course, motorcycle companies love this, since larger bikes = larger profits.

Elsewhere there's a lot more variety in the under-500 cc category. Heck you can't really get anything with sporty origins in that segment other than the Ninja. Considering how well the Ninja has sold in the last 18 or whatever years, it's obvious that people are interested. It just seems like the companies don't want to bring anything over. Of course they make them, Canada even gets the CBR125 from Honda.

If I was getting a small-displacement bike for going around town, I would likely get a dual-sport motard. Their power delivery is great for lower speeds, and the geometry makes them super maneuverable.

If I had to guess, the biggest reason the US doesn't get the DS250 is that it cost like 2000 more (about 5200 or 5600 on the japanese site) than the Virago. And the Virago cost about 1000 more than the Ninja 250. Yamaha does not want to risk people spending 3000 more for bike just because it is more refined an gets almost 40 more mpg

admittily, I'd probably buy the ninja if the DS was the only other option. Poor college student.

  4. Since we're talking about motorcycles again, I'd like to mention that I'm at just under 900 miles and haven't dropped the bike or otherwise killed myself yet Just got a new jacket in the mail and love the way it looks. Haven't ridden with it yet, though.

And there is one other 250 sport bike in the US, the Hyosung GT250R. I don't know anything about Hyosungs, but it looks like a nice bike for the price. It seems to sorta follow the Hyundai mantra of offering extra features for the same prices as the competition--it's got digital instrumentation, it's a "full-size" bike (same size as an R6, whereas my Ninja 250 is definitely smaller) and the engine is supposedly significantly torquier.

Price is about the same as the Ninja 250 ($3,800 msrp), though I presume you can get it cheaper since the Ninjas are being marked up everywhere.

Sharp looking bike, but I'm still glad I went with the Kawasaki.

Pbbbt. I'm over a thou since buying, and my bike maxes out at half your cruising speed. Also accelerates to 30 by the time you've already driven around the block twice. WHEN MY NEW VARIATOR COMES IN I MIGHT BE ABLE TO SCRAPE 40 ON A BIG ENOUGH HILL.
I don't like most motorbikes over 250cc, they just look too big.

    i painted my scooter.

    old

    new

bonus! Without the front or fender.

Next time i have a chunk of change, it's a choice of getting the big bore kit (and actually being able to travel at a good speed), getting a hot exhaust (and having people hear me before they pull over on top of me), or getting a Ruckus swing-arm + big back shock + Ruckus back tire, which just looks awesome.

Here's one a guy has over at the Urbanscootin forum, a few guys on Totalruckus and some guy in F-chan land did the same.

Haha, that is very cool Finch. Pink on black is very "I'm an F-chan, but fuck you"

Not too shabby! Though to be fair, I do no highway cruising, just city commuting. My coworker got his Vino a few weeks before I got my bike and I've been trying to catch up to him in miles, with some hiccups when I hurt my wrist, vacationed for a week, and waited a week for my 600 mile service.

And have you ridden with 50 mph crosswind gusts? Changing directions randomly? That's tits.

Why not just buy a 125cc scooter? My buddy's Vino does 60.

Though I must say, your Metro is lookin' wholly original. Would your rear wheel scrape the back of the bike on bumps with that Ruckus rearend?

    Probably because a 49cc doesn't require a motorcycle license.
