Was just now playing (got to stage 27 with 39 million in one run, at the top of my hardcore friends list, booyah, this game is fucking awesome, best original XBLA game, etc.), and you can definitely get access to the bonus stage by picking up enough pods during the level. Enough of them causes an Ox to appear, and after the level you get informed of an Ox token that will grant you a bonus level after a level or two more of play.

I've seen him playing the game these past two days--he definitely gave it time. I just watched it for a bit, but I can see what he's talking about.

While you're smacking him from James, make sure to point out that (unlike Tempest) you don't HAVE to use/see the entire board to make it past a level. On many levels you can just hover between 3-4 lanes and move on to the next. Your score will suffer, but I can't see all of the BS that this games is getting because "waaaaaaaaaah, I can't see".

Patch and leaderboard wipe coming up. On the plus side, the patch fixes the friends leaderboard issue.

Glad I haven't put much time into a high score yet. What does the patch fix, just the leaderboards?

Friends leaderboard and a scoring exploit that probably invalidates most of the top scores. Seeing as the patch is on the way, here's how to cheat at Space Giraffe and make it significantly less fun-

Hold down Jump. Keep holding down jump and never let go. Now you've got infinite Power Zone. Whee...?

Wow, surprised that made it through testing.

It never would have occurred to me, and apparently to any of the people who tested it either, to keep the jump held down forever. The jump is a strategic move, after all, useful for refilling the power zone and taking out those stupid spiky balls, and rarely gets held down for longer than a second.

So, basically, apparently nobody thought about it. All sorts of other bizarre stuff gets found and something that sounds obvious gets missed. At least they're able to put out a patch for it.

Once you've got 5 pods saved up, the 3rd extra one gets you the Ox Token if you haven't missed any during the level.
