People wondering why you don't get hurt when you touch someone who isn't attacking you and calling the NES version the original? For shame, TNL.![]()
I'm glad to hear that; I keep reading all these warm & fuzzy memories of the first one and all I can remember about the NES version was that I thought it sucked balls back in 1988 or whenever. I didn't know there was another, better version for people to be nostalgic over.

The important thing to remember about the 80s- arcade > console. Hard to believe, but true.

Yeah, I never played the NES version as a kid, and I only more recently learned of how terrible it is, and how tainted the name has been as a result. I thought Legend of Kage was a beloved arcade classic, but more people seem to remember it as a terrible NES game, it seems.
The arcade version also came out in 1984, which made it pretty cutting edge. I believe it's the first raster-based platform game with smooth scrolling in all directions. And it's like the original ninja action-platformer so points there, too.
I think Candoo Ninja's a bit older but arcade Kage's better and more significant. It was ahead of its time.Originally Posted by Frogacuda
Sky Shark is another game that got FUBARed in the trip to the NES. You can't see the bullets nearly as good, and "What the fuck?" deaths can happen.
Time Soldiers on SMS is good, but not nearly as intense as the arcade and stripped of some challenge.
Many NES/SMS ports are either loads easier, or harder in a cheap way.
Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)
HAY EVERYBODY GUESS WHAT I GOT TODAY.
ADD review:
controlls arent that bad. You simply dispatch the hordes of ninja by slashing them or tossing a shiruken into their easily split domes. To lend to the whole speedrun feel of the game, you can dash by double tapping and also do a running slash. The aforementioned move stops your run so you gotta double tap again to continue running at full tilt. Kinda makes me wish they had a dash button. You can deflect shiruken with your sword like in the old days which is pretty nice. Adds one more twitch element to gameplay. You can also charge your sword power to imitate the super scroll move from the nintendo days. So far I have played levels one and two. The dude with the Elephentitis used his own dash attack against me when I was trying to execute my own. I have to get back into the whole double tap thing since I havnt done so since one of the late Megaman X games. Oh and did I forget to mention that soaring through the trees and grabbing onto ledges feels awesome? Cause it is.
Theres a lot more to this game and I havnt even played the kunoichi chick yet. I have some stuff to take care of so Ill let someone else comment.
I give it a "buy it" rating.
oh and I forgot to mention one more thing that should make it even more of a sweet deal. When I got it at Best Buy this afternoon, I bought it for a whole TWENTY DOLLARS MUTHAFUKA.
So the score goes from "buy it" to "DO WANT"
