Thread: Firefox character encoding problem

  1. Firefox character encoding problem

Since Dippity-Do can't make new posts, he asked me to put this up for him:

I'm having a problem with Firefox character encoding, namely, I cannot seem to view Japanese characters in my web browser. There are three options for Japanese in the drop-down menu, Japanese (EUC-JP), Japanese (Shift_JIS), and Japanese (ISO-2022-JP), but no matter which is selected, I cannot view the characters properly. Usually just ends up with a bunch of question marks.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Thanks, Rumpy.

  3. You need Japanese language support for Windows. Google "Windows Japanese support" or something similar. If you just want to read Japanese you probably don't have to go through the entire process.

  4. Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages

Check "Install Files for East Asian languages"...that should do it.

  5. It tells me I need the second disk of the XP installation package . . . which I do not have. It also gives me the option of D/L'ing the files, but I cannot seem to find a host anywhere.

    Any ideas?
