....Galaxy is repetitiously doing something that's been done for far longer than Gears.

The level design and slight tweaks to the formula are what make it good. Same with Gears.



It's ok if you don't like 3rd person action games, but it doesn't mean Galaxy is a better game.


Galaxy certainly is a AAA in a field that has fewer entries for Gears...which makes Gears even more remarkable, since it stands out so much in an already crowded field, a clear AAA. Although, TBH, 3rd person action isn't quite as full as the FPS genre.



Certainly, the cover system and co-op dynamic hasn't been done "repetitiously over the last 5 years," like you are trying to imply, though Gears wasn't the originator of these either.

I'm not implying that - but that the fps genre has had it's incredible fill of fps style games. And I know Gears is third person, but all control conventions and a large core of its gameplay devices are from the first person genre. So would I call it TPS? The cover and co-op are the things that set it apart; then again so does the pacing, the smaller nuances. Again it's a great game in a genre filled with games like it. So yeah it's a much larger feat to pull something like that off.

But yeaaaaaaaah...I'm a sucker for platformers, the plaformer genre is a void these days, which makes Galaxy's strengths stand out so much more.

That's fine, but it's also a grossly different conclusion than the one you put forth earlier.

(Then again, I could also tirade on how Mario Galaxy is more of a videogame than Gears, Resistance, BioShock, and its ilk could ever be, but that's for another discussion)

Bioshock kept me going because of gameplay and story.

Gears still has me playing because of the gameplay, not the story.

Mario Galaxy had me finish it to the "end" jus cause it was mario and i was waiting and hoping end game was just as good as that first hour we all played it. It wasnt.

Also having come back to the game last week, the camera is way wonky.
