Thread: Official PlayStation 3 Thread

  1. And it keeps getting better, as now the new system update makes it more likely for PS3s to overheat. Just great. (OK, it's probably just due to a small spike in YLODs and the timing of it all but damnit I just want to pile on).

In the next generation, Sony shouldn't be allowed to touch anything software-related and Microsoft shouldn't be allowed to touch anything hardware related. Ugh.

That makes absolutely no sense, as you pointed out. I agree with your conclusion though. And Nintendo shouldn't be allowed to touch anything hardware or (non-game) software related.

  4. My YLOD is fixed (for now) thanks to gilsky's great youtube guide. We'll see how long it lasts, though.

In dismantling the entire system, which included removing probably 40 screws of various sizes, the only real pain in the ass came in the main hard drive screw -- the one screw Sony actually *expects* a customer might remove.

It's blue and different from every other screw in the system, seemingly made of some kind of high-grade butter. Seriously, this thing strips if you breathe on it. It was half-stripped when I opened the hard drive bay for the first time ever! I took care of the rest...

Luckily some old dudes at the local hardware store were on the case, and one of the more tenacious finally got it loose with some needle-nose pliers. What a fucking pain in the ass, though.

    Sony screws me yet again!

Yeah, wouldn't want a repeat of all those Wii's breaking.

A console that once had horsepower and broke is better than a console that never had horsepower at all, buttercup.

The DVD drives shit on them all the time, and I have seen a lot with cold solder issues giving them intermittent power.

But putting last gen's technology in a small case isn't as hard to keep cool as it is with something modern.

Turns out it's actually L.A. Noire causing this, and it's happening to 360s as well. WAY TO GO ROCKSTAR

  9. It's none of this shit. Doesn't this happen every time the 360 rolls out a major update, too? Everyone who happens to get a RROD around that time blames it on that, and the well-oiled internet rumor mill starts a churnin'.

  10. You didn't even read it.
"Rockstar have now updated their FAQ on the matter, have admitted that it is a fault with their latest title LA Noire and have offered a workaround," says Sony. "It should also be noted that the issue with this title is not PS3 specific and is also affecting other consoles."
