There is no way the next generation of consoles is going to be Digital Download only. Plus whose going to sell your console? Stores aren't going to carry it, since they make almost nothing on console hardware. Unless stores are allowed to make a mark up on the hardware, but then you're just paying a high price for no real advantage.

When's the last time you bought a peripheral and didn't get gouged?
Besides, it's not impossible for stores to charge $20 over wholesale for a game system.
No retail chain on earth makes money from iTunes sales, and yet Apple has no trouble getting their products on store shelves.
