An interesting property about Meat Boy is that if you let go of run while he's mid-air, he loses acceleration (conversely, he gains acceleration if you press run while in mid-air, which is required for some of the jumps in the later Dark World levels).

The programmer revealed in a documentary about indie developers that if you move away from the wall while wall sticking, Meat Boy won't immediately disengage from the wall. He added a very slight delay so that it wouldn't frustrate wall jumpers who want to press the direction away from the wall before they press the jump button.

  2. ok, the first thing is good to know
the second thing is annoying me

What I really meant about the acceleration (and I guess this kinda goes with the first thing) is that he gets to full speed much sooner than I feel he should. There's like two speeds, super slow and balls-to-wall fast, with no real smooth acceleration in between. Sometimes this helps and sometimes it's a pain.

either way I'm sure it's just a matter of practice

  3. To the TNLers who aren't as thrilled with Pac-Man CE DX as they wanted to be, I have a genuine question to ask you: Where you expecting DX to replace the original CE and that's some of the source of your frustration?
I love both CE and CE DX, but I think they're completely different games and one isn't replacing the other for me. I look at it in the same way I look at Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3 both co-existing and still enjoying playing both for different reasons.

  4. I played CE DX til like 4:30 last night. No regrets.

  5. I still can't beat Bacon (on most modes) but I'm crushing pretty much everyone else.

Yeah, I think for me maybe it was a case of going in with unrealistic expectations. Obviously just releasing another game exactly like CE would have been pointless, but I was expecting something that would give me the same feeling that CE did, and so far, DX hasn't.

The best way to describe my opinion of the game so far is this: CE felt, to me, like a true sequel to the original Pac-Man, where DX feels like a project made by the fan community, where they have all of these crazy ideas for what to do and can't decide on a graphics style or other options and go overboard on everything, and in doing so kind of miss the core pieces that made the original as fun and timeless as it was.

  7. I would imagine people were expecting it to replace CE given the title. Super Mario Bros. DX was SMB with some added features. Had it been a port of SMB3, it would have caused confusion too.

  8. I love the freneticism and sheer crazed energy of the game, which is something I didn't get from any previous Pac-Man. Then again, I'm more than a little partial to games that try to overload my brain, so this CEDX seems specifically tailored to my tastes. I can understand how it wouldn't appeal to people looking for a more traditional take on the series, and it's probably best viewed as Pac-Man CE Gaiden, rather than DX.

  9. Just over 1.5 million, on my list Bacon's the only one ahead of me. I don't know if Korly's on my list. Gunning for top 50 at some point soon.

  10. I picked up Retro Evolved 2 again and I managed to top my previous scores in four out of six modes pretty quickly. Clearly, I put this game down much too soon.
