Thread: Henrietta Lacks, "immortal" woman and posthumous hero

  1. That's a theory yes, I certainly believe some people would go completely insane. But I know that I'd enjoy it, particularly if I kept the laid back mindset I have now.

  2. Well, they better get on with it then. I don't want to become immortal as a middle-aged dude.

Agreed, I wanna become immortal around 30, the perfect age.

Knowing that someday you will die makes life worth living. If I knew I had forever (which is a concept I don't really think any of us can fully realize) to get around to doing something I'd never get out of bed.

Without the inevitable death there is no meaning to life.

    No.

Immortality will make you go crazy. I work in a kitchen at a retirement home and sometimes get to interact with the residents. Some of the really old ones (high 90's, sometimes 100's) are completely wacked out and there's nothing wrong with their brains.

I think you come to a point where you look back on your life and find certain things so far removed that you want to live them again and convince yourself that your past is indeed your present.

In other thoughts, immortality is in no way evolution, to me it almost seems anti-evolution. How long would it take humanity to over-populate the planet and destroy the eco-system?

  8. Immortality is also more than a physical state of being. At age 1200, would you really remember what you were like at age 16? Most likely just about every aspect of you will have changed. It's possible that at some point you just stop remembering things from long ago. Does that make you a different person, DNA notwithstanding?

I wouldn't take it if offered. Maybe a few extra decades, like reaching age 100 as if it were 70.

Its not taking us long at all, and we're not even immortal.

  10. Theres no time for us
    Theres no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away
    From us

    Who wants to live forever
    Who wants to live forever....?

    Theres no chance for us
    Its all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

    Who wants to live forever
    Who wants to live forever?

    Who dares to love forever?
    When love must die

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
    And we can have forever
    And we can love forever
    Forever is our today
    Who wants to live forever
    Who wants to live forever?
    Forever is our today

    Who waits forever anyway?
