Thread: Monitor with no speakers (Xbox 360)

  1. Monitor with no speakers (Xbox 360)

So I finally decided to hook up my 360 HD-DVD add on, had all the cables. Connected DVI cable from my monitor to HDMI selector via HDMI>DVI adapter. Stupid adapter was too big as the power plug was in the way (adapter was from a different selector). So I ordered HDMI to DVI cable from monoprice.

Got cable in, hooked everything and everything works. But no sound. There are no speakers on my Dell 2407WFP-HC. My computer is connected to my Dell 2.1 (2 speakers, 1 sub) that I bought off of WOOT for like $15. There is no AUX port on the speakers/sub.

My question is how can I get sound. I noticed that Dell sells a Sound Bar that connects and is powered by monitor. The Sound Bar has a green plug that is suppose to be connected to source such as PC to get sound. Since Xbox360 doesnt have that, how would this work?

I know there is a VGA HD cable for the 360 but my monitor is connected to PC via VGA.

Would there be a way to connect it to you my PC speakers even though it has no AUX port. I heard the Dell Sound Bar sucks since its like 10watts but so as long I get sound I'm fine with it..so how would I get sound to that with the green plug?

I'm a noob when it comes to these home entertainment stuff.

    one of those, I guess

edit: I guess you could search for a female/female adapter, so you can plug your speakers in directly (or use that on some sort of ghettoed up amplifier through the pc/switching unit)

  3. I had this problem a while ago, and it wasn't after a couple of trips to radioshack that I discovered that my monitor actually has speakers.. But the sound sucks, and I'd like to be able to use my 2.1 pc speakers, so thanks for the link cka.
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

  4. you need this and this

while I'm sure that somebody makes a one piece female LR-RCA to female 3.5mm, I sure has fuck can't find it. So you gotta get these two and hook em together.

  5. Wait, I'm almost certain that that stuff won't work since he's using HDMI. So he'd need some way to split the HDMI signal before it gets to the HDMI-DVI converter, right?

Oh, unless you have one of these of course.

Yes, I am using HDMI (Xbox connected to my HDMI selector via HDMI. HDMI selector connected to my monitor via HDMI>DVI cable)

I received the Xbox360 Halo3 edition. I dont remember if that cable comes with it. If so, I can use that..but one problem...my 2.1 speakers dont have red and white cables. Mind you, its PC speakers. So it comes only with that green plug and its connected to my computer.

  7. right. so get that cable manner suggested. then get this one (already posted by first blood) http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Splitter...532562&sr=8-16with male ends on the red and white, to plug into the one manner suggested. then get this (also posted by first blood) http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-C...532562&sr=8-12 so you can plug your green plug from the speakers into the now almost 32x sized contraption.

AHHHH OK! Thanks for clearing that up. One more question. Since I want to use my PC speakers for my computer and Xbox360, is there a splitter of some sort that I can connect to my PC and Xbox360 at the same time so I dont have to keep swapping and removing my computer tower out each time?

BTW, how much does that cable that manner posted cost?

  9. Ah, that's easy man... I use one of those from time to time.

    Here's one example...

I am sure someone as resourceful as you can easily nab one quickly via ebay too! I got one really cheap from a small vendor for If you use google, type "VGA selector switch" or something.

  10. Yeah, like Dyne said if you have that cable then you can use the audio connectors that the earlier posters suggested. I don't know how much the cable would be, I just found it on a quick google and I think that it comes with the 360 Elites. But yeah, I don't know what number the connector would be for a 3.5 mm headphone port splitter, but I'm sure it'd be easy to find one.
