Thread: The "I Just Watched..." Thread

  1. The Up Series: a seven part documentary that follows the lives of a handful of British children. The series begins in 1964 when they are seven and checks in on them every seven years thereafter. The world has changed a lot since 1964, but do the subjects, or is the child truly the father of the man? You'll have to watch to find out!

I remember writing in an elementary school journal that my idea of heaven was a VCR and a television in an infinite library of VHS tapes. On each tape was the recording of a single person's entire life filmed in the first person: everything they saw, did, and thought. There was such a tape for anyone who ever lived. I would spend eternity watching them. Creepy? Probably. Telling? Certainly.

There was a new installment released just this month. I cannot wait to see it.

  2. I haven't seen the one due out this month, or the one just before. I saw the others, I think up to 35 Up. I love the idea, but damn, they start recapping so much that by the fourth one, there's like a half hour of new content and the other hour and a half is a rehash, some of which you've seen three times already at that point.

I like the homeless guy the best.

I could have sworn there was a Russian series exactly like this. I've brought it up on here before. I caught one installment many years ago on Discovery or some such. The kids were either seven years old or fourteen, can't remember. I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine it because the only reason I started watching the 7 Ups a few years ago was because I thought, "Hey, this sounds just like that Russian one I saw." But nobody seems to know what the heck it is.

[fake edit]: Google search says it's 7/14/21 UP Born in the USSR. Netflix does not have it. Youtubeing movies is ghetto, but maybe I'll do it anyway. I remember it being better than the US version...

  3. Xbox, apple tv, or ps3(?) will put those tubes on your tv.

  4. And yeah, the up series is pretty cool... It is NOT meant to be watched back to back and it shows.

  5. Oh, snap, that wiki page shows a few other similar documentaries for other countries (including the Russia one). I wanna see the chan one...

  6. Been watching the UK version of Shameless. It's pretty funny.

  7. Weird, I just started watching the 2nd series. Waited until the 2nd season of the US version was over to get back into it.

  8. It stops being dark in the second season and becomes pretty silly.

  9. Watched Haywire and In Time thanks to free Red Box codes. Both worth watching but not amazing.

  10. Just finished watching a prescreening of Snow White and the Huntsman... very melodramatic (too much so for me) but it was well made overall.

Glad i got free tickets though.
