I still don't think there's been a show that has pushed its characters as far as Breaking Bad does. You have to push through some tiresome stuff to get there but it pays off in the last season or 2. Ozymandias is still one of the best episodes of TV ever made IMO.

It's no surprise the anti-hero is so popular. It allows anyone to be the hero without any of discipline, sacrifice, or work the standard "burdened by greatness" hero has to go through. Those themes go well with modern living.
I like it because anti-hero stories are free to embrace the faults of heroes as people and not symbols. Better, more novel and interesting characters come from that idea IMO.

This is EXACTLY how I feel about it. Like everyone around me was (and still does) go on and on about how great it is and I just can't see what anyone sees in it.
I can tell you that none of those people around me that do love it so have ever been to a trap house or know what hotrailing is.
What.
The.
Fuck.
He's been a mess for a long time.
I think anti-heros are more modern in that they are often post modern. Their sense of good is personal and they do not adhere to a greater good, which may be fake in the context of the story. I think this may also be part of why batman is more popular than superman now. It isn't that either character is less believable. Its less believable that the the world around superman is just. What would Superman do in a world of Nixans and Trumps?
