Thread: Receivers (Higher End)

  1. I just want to add that you should remember hi-fi is a world of diminishing returns. The more you spend, the less the appreciable difference in sound.
    Boo, Hiss.

  2. Ended up buying the AVR-3808CI through the TNL store. Now, I'm going to go on a speaker hunt.

  3. The same holds true with speakers/enclosures. I'm not of a huge help in the home audio department. If we were talking instrument speakers/cabinets, I could hook you up.
    Boo, Hiss.

  4. Give Definitive Tech a listen. I've had the old ProCinema 100 series (with C2 center) combined with a Denon 3802 for about 5 years now. The sound it can put out is really impressive, especially when running the loud speakers through the sub for better crossover.

Eventually, once I can afford to get back into HT, I'd like to replace my fronts with their bipolar loudspeakers with powered subs.

  5. how do you guys feel about Yamaha recievers as a whole? Any decent?

I've always liked their high end stuff. I can not speak for their cheaper units.

Back when I was hardcore into audio, I remember Yamaha being famous for being "bright" --aka emphasis on the high ends. May be a different story nowadays.

  8. I <3 Yamaha. I almost bought an rx-v2700 about 6 months ago but decided to hold off upgrading. It uses Burr Brown DACs which are really good. Very good reviews from audio sites (wish i remembered which site the review i am thinking of was on). They generally give you more for your money than other brands feature wise as well. The 2700 has networking capabilities.

  9. The biggest knock on Yamaha has been there remotes. I was considering one of them, too, but I believe the RX-V2700 supports 1.2 HDMI and not 1.3

  10. Shin and I have the same Yamaha receiver. It's low end ($200) but we are (if I may speak for us both) very happy with it.
