Thread: The Rock Band Thread

  1. It's not really a triplet, just 16th notes with a space.

Yeah, but even so, just using your right hand and pedal for most of the song only causes the meter to fall very slowly. Slow enough so that you only need one or two good Overdrives to finish.

  3. I dont think reds count the most on RTTH, I think whatever the snare and kick are count the most. The snare on RTTH is yellow

  4. Why would the snare be yellow on Run to the Hills but in EVERY OTHER FUCKING SONG IN THE GAME be red?

  5. Iron Maiden wants you for dead!

There are a few songs with a similar pattern (Orange Crush, The Hand That Feeds), where there's a hi-hat playing sixteenth notes interspersed with a snare hit every other beat. It makes more sense for a right-handed player to play the pattern starting with your right hand, but this would be stupidly difficult if the snare weren't to the right of the hi-hat.

A right-handed person can't do a two-handed high hat beat if the snare is to the left of the hat. You'd twist your arms in a pretzel trying to hit the snare with your right hand while simultaneously raising your left hand to hit the hi hat on the next 16/th. So those songs need the snare on the right of the hat.

IRL the hat is to the left of the snare and about 10 inches higher to keep arms out of each other's way. Since the 10-inches higher bit would make packing the drum pad a nightmare for the Rockband manufactures, I guess they just went with re-assigning uni-height pads.

  8. While I realize I never really got into Hard on the drums, I still have one suggestion- train your left hand not to be stupid.

It's got nothing to do with that. It's physics. I can easily hit the hat with my left and the snare with my right or vice-versa on one-handed hat beats. My left hand is far from stupid.

But physics causes a train wreck when going two-handed on the high hat if the snare is to the right of the hat and at the same height. The rhythm involves one hand going up at the same time the other hand is going down. So you've got your right hand at it's highest point right when the left hits the hat. Now it's the right moves down to hit the snare while the left moves up to prepare for the next hat hit. The right arm has to cross over top of the left to reach the snare on the left side of the hat. You end up bashing your forearms together.

  10. can't you just train yourself to start a roll with your left hand instead of the right when you need to?
