There are tons of substances that can kill you or impair your judgment when not taken in moderation. Chug down some cold medicine and go for a drive, see what happens. There are even more substances that can just straight up kill you through an overdose. None of them should be illegal.

And lets not all act like Alcohol is blameless. Its primary purpose is to inebriate people. If you are a pessimist you say that is so people can get wasted, act like assholes, rape women and kill babies with a car. If you're a positive, its something to drink with pizza and to make you feel a little better about the day.




God, some of you are unbelievable. This whole fucking argument boils down to "I'm used to these things and I like them and don't want them taken away." There's nothing wrong with it. I even said I'm not against people owning guns. I'm just saying they're not comparable items.

I plan to buy a gun someday. And I can safely say, killing people has never entered my mind while thinking about that future purchase. Never. I have never thought "which one of these will help me kill people."

I think stuff like

which one of these will be cheaper to practice with
which one will be easier to get skilled with
which one is the best for hunting deer, wild rabbits or squirrels
which one might keep its value better in case I want to sell
which one looks cool to me
which one has more historical significance

I sometimes wonder if pro-legislation people are actually more murderous internally. That would explain why they don't understand how hobbyist can compare them to beer or SUVs. To them, guns are for killing people, and little else.

I've shot CRAZY guns. But mostly at critters or targets or barrels. My favorite is still a .22 rifle! Cheapest ammo to just plink away at stuff all day. AK-47s are wasteful and expensive to fire on auto, but super fun.

Shotguns are the most functionally useful, IMO.

The Professor is correct, I use my pistol to scare pigs, clear brush, cut rope, signal my friends when my phone is dead, and turn out the lights. Never thought about someone using it to kill someone else. But, it's totally possible.
