Well do you want freedom or do you want someone picking and choosing.
You can't have both, and you can't be sure that the person doing the picking and choosing will always be someone you agree with.
So things are the way they are and it's a little sad to see groaning about what some nutjobs are doing.
Just because we are getting old, doesn't mean we have to act like old people.

Yup. When I started with my last job at the credit union 8 years ago things were different. Still goverened by the people they talk about but not as money hungry. I started noticing changes around 3 years ago, but it wasn't anything to be alarmed about. In the past 2 years more and more fees were introduced, less leeway given etc. My supervisors were looking for more and more sales with less counseling so that's when the job hunt started. I now work for a small Annapolis bank that has 4 offices in the county and that's it. There is no huge push for sales, and it's laid back. HQ is literally right upstairs so any upward movement wouldn't be a longer commute.

I have TD Bank which is only operating on the East Coast. Sometimes I am tempted to go to the money launderers for the drug cartels (HSBC) or the guys propping up the government's income sheet (JP Morgan Chase) just because they have a lot of branches everywhere. I'll stay away from CUs though. Better the devil you know I guess.

I've learned by working for small banks that hundreds of branches everywhere doesn't equate to shit unless you want to get a loan, or speak to a manager. Networked ATM's and Remote Deposits mean that even if I didn't work at the bank, I still wouldn't have to go in there for 95% of my transactions anyway.

Edit: But yes, better the devil you know. When I jumped on the CU bandwagon the best thing going for them were the higher savings rates. That's all down the tubes now and people are scraping by with .30% being a great rate on a liquid account. It's wild.

At least they're passionate about something, even if it's something I hate. More people should have their level of commitment.
