No, and it'll keep happening because the news stations insist on turning it into as big a spectacle as possible and making these guys celebrities. I'd bet this wouldn't even be a phenomenon if standard practice was to refrain from naming the perpetrators on air.

The San Bernardino shooting today was way too close to home....only about a five minutes drive from my house/work. All the schools in the area were on lock down, and my students were freaking out. It's good to finally be home for the day. I'm locking the doors and going to bed. lol.

I don't think these are all motivated the same way and there are a few of those at work, but yeah, I think media is certainly one of the big ones.
