I think it's pretty safe to start calling these idiots The Worst Generation.
I don't understand any of this.

Yale students didn't trust themselves to make decisions about what to wear for Halloween, so a professor resigned for asking them to put on their big boy pants.

I didn't read the entire thing but I'm aware of her upbringing. I just think she has issues. I grew up in a white, middle-upper class neighborhood where the boys thought they were growing up in Compton. Total fantasy. They could identity with the black experience all they wanted but they weren't black and would never know the horrors of inner city living, no matter how much N.W.A. they listened to. Just as much as she might identify with black culture, which is totally fine, she's not black. She's white, no matter how much self-tanner she puts on or how many weaves she has.

The article mentioned something where she was convinced that one of her Jewish friends must be black because he had an afro. Must be, no other explanation. I have a friend who is white, has a fro and has zero black in his family. None. That statement by her, imo, shows that she's got identity issues, which is why I feel sorry for her. I mean, her own family thinks she has issues and ffs, she sued Howard University in 2002 for white discrimination.

That all begs the question, are black people the sum of their suffering?

Are white people the sum of their wealth and success?

Everyone is going to say no. But fuck if it isn't like most people act like the answer is yes.

That language is dumb. Perhaps I can shed some light on the problem because the costumes are only the tip of the iceberg, though.

    - "Whites Only" parties
    - "Blackface Only" parties
    - "No Girls" parties (which, also, makes zero sense)
    - "Asian stereotype" parties
    - "Mexican stereotype" parties

And that's a smattering of the stuff that people are finally bringing up.

Here's the problem, be it a racist costume or party or whatever: When called out, the people say, "It's just a joke! Can't you take a joke?" When called out about how that's juvenile, they fall back to the "freedom of speech" thing, which causes stuff like said professor being surrounded by a crowd of agitated students.

Being asked to maybe be considerate and avoid racially insensitive costumes has nothing to do with freedom of speech. But I guess it's probably too much to hope that people who cannot comprehend the idea of "not being a dick" realize that fact.

Now all that said, there's definitely an aggressiveness in the protesting students that worries me.

EDIT: Also, my wife just had to watch a video about mass-shooting preparedness. Ugh.

I don't see any difference between a "Whites Only" party and a "Blacks Only" one, which you and I both know exists and is not being called out. Similarly, a toga party is no different than a sombrero party or whatever the "Mexican stereotype" is. Again, those aren't being called out. Would anyone give a shit if there were an "Irish stereotype" party with nothing but Guinness and Whiskey? Nope. People need to focus on things that actually matter and grow some fucking skin. The world is full of dicks, and the people protesting are a subset of them. They might as well learn that in college, since my guess is most of these idiots aren't learning much else in their "safe spaces."

edit: If Yale isn't liberal enough for you, the real world is going to be quite a shock.

Who gives a shit? Life sucks for everyone, in different ways. Part of life is figuring out how to get around the shit that gets thrown your way. Part of life is figuring out who is an asshole and staying away from them.

These protestors are at Yale. One of the best universities in the world. I didn't go to Yale. They are way ahead of me, skin color be damned. They're among the most privileged and gifted people in America with their whole life ahead of them but they can't stop talking about how fucking oppressed and beaten down they are. It's an embarrassment.

More generally. What happens when these people leave school and realize there is nobody to give them a safe space where all their feels are validated? They're gonna crap their pants and it's gonna be hilarious.

  9. My guess: they're going to retain attorneys and sue people who offend them.

By that point tumblr will be the next Facebook and it'll be lost between the five second gifs of their children on there.
