I like that most of you are dumb.

Well, I don't like it. It's very troubling how both sides have reacted and their reasoning.

The flag should be removed from government buildings. There isn't a reason for it to be on them. It should probably be removed from state flags because it upsets a significant portion of the state population.

Everything else, stupidity and silliness. The brainwashing on all sides is crazy. People just know stuff. They don't have any reasoning. This means that, that means this. And there is no consistency in reasoning. We should do this because of feelings, but don't change any of 'my' stuff because of feelings. We should do this because of history, but please disregard my history.

Also, an aside, is the country ever going to reconcile the American identity and the southern identity? How long are we going to continue talking about unity and how everyone is American, while also talking about "southern" problems? We even do this here. In one post someone is talking about putting the flag to rest, and how we're all Americans and unity, the next is the south is racist, the south committed treason, the south wanted to keep slaves.

We can't keep up with this double standard and expect progress. You can't keep straddling the fence. If we want improvement, the US has to take responsibility for all of its mistakes. The heritage of America is racism, and slavery, and oppression. Not, the south, but America. From coast to coast. The American flag stands for everything the confederate flag stood for. You can not recognize them as a separate body and also accuse them of treason. Either they were Americans that fought to keep slavery and their sins are on America, or they are a separate entity and their actions do not fall on all of us. You can't have it both ways.
